FAQ
Plain-language answers to the questions clients ask before hiring an interior designer.
What does an interior designer do?
An interior designer plans the function, layout, and visual character of an interior space — from millwork and lighting to materials and furniture — and coordinates with the construction team so the design is buildable and well executed.
When should I hire an interior designer?
As early as possible — ideally before architectural drawings are finalized. Early involvement lets us plan layouts, lighting, and millwork together with the architecture, which avoids costly changes later.
What is schematic design?
Schematic design is the first phase of an interior design project. It establishes the program, layout, and visual direction through plans, 3D renderings, and a curated set of material and finish options.
What is design development?
Design development is the phase that takes the approved schematic direction and details it into specifications, construction drawings, custom millwork, and finalized furniture, lighting, and fixture selections.
What is contract administration?
Contract administration is the construction phase of the project. We review submittals, answer requests for information, conduct site visits, and coordinate with consultants so the design is delivered as intended.
Do you help with furniture procurement?
Yes. We source furniture, lighting, accessories, and custom pieces — including trade-only vendors — for both single residences and large-scale developments.
Do you work with contractors and architects?
Yes. With a background in architectural technology, we work fluidly with architects, structural engineers, mechanical and electrical consultants, and general contractors.
Where do you work?
Primarily Vancouver and the Lower Mainland — Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Maple Ridge, and out to Abbotsford. We've also delivered projects in Toronto and Seattle, and consider work elsewhere case by case.
How does the design process work?
We work in four phases: discovery, schematic design, design development, and contract administration. Furniture procurement and styling can be added at any phase.
How do I start a project?
Send an inquiry through the contact form with your project type, location, timeline, and approximate budget. We typically respond within a few business days to schedule an introductory conversation.
